Take off!
So i got some old R/C stuff from a friend of a friend... An old petrol R/C car, a transmitter and some bits and bobs. While i was attempting to start the car i broke the starter motor so that had to be put on hold.... Hmmm what else could i make?
This project was great, i learnt about all the components needed to control an R/C plane, vehicle or boat!... maybe even all three combined... but thats a project for another day!
This baby has some real thrust and sounds like an industrial hoover at full power.
I built it using plans but for my next project i want to design something my self... i think a flying wing is in order, here are some designs ive come up with.
Regular planes have elevators to control pitch, but flying wings dont have a tail so they use there ailerons... this combination of elevators and ailerons are called elevons. This can be controlled using a fancy programmable transmitter which blends the signals but since mine is 20 years old ill be using a V-tail mixer.
A rudder would also be a nice addition.. i like the rudder on the B-2 bomber. They are basically air brakes that induce yaw.
But this would mean two separate servos for each rudder, and i would have to check if my receiver has two rudder channels. If i was to use this type of rudder the wing span would have to be long enough so that when the "air brake" creates drag the moment generated produces a small enough turning circle.
